Grade: B
Time it takes: 6 hours and 30 minutes (30 minutes of prep, 6 hours plus for chilling)
Yield: I got 10 stars from my 13x9, but there is a lot of leftover jello that is perfectly edible
Source: adapted from a recipe from brown eyed baker - a baking blog
Chris and I were invited over for a Fourth of July cookout. I volunteered to bring over these Jello stars. They are as simple as can be, super cute, and pretty tasty. I was a little unsure about how they would taste. I am not a huge jello fan, and the sweetened condensed milk gelatin sounded awfully weird. But, it just tasted like a bit sweeter jello. These stars are all about presentation, and you get that with minimal effort. Definitely a recipe to consider for any get together - change up the colours and the cookie cutter shapes and you have a fun themed-to-any-event jello.

- 4 boxes of Jello, 3 oz each - I used 2 strawberry and 2 berry blue
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 2 envelopes of unflavoured gelatin - knox makes this
- 5 cups of water
- Star shaped cookie cutter - without any type of edge around it because the jello will be thick and the cutter will have to go all the way down
Directions:
Boil 2 cups of water and dissolve the strawberry jello with it. Pour into a small container. Repeat for the berry blue jello. Place in the refrigerator and let set for at least 3 hours.
Towards the end of the 3 hours: Boil 1 1/2 cups of water. Sprinkle the 2 packets of unflavoured gelatin into 1/2 cup cold water and let sit for 1-2 minutes. After the gelatin blooms, add the boiling water to dissolve. Add the can of condensed milk and stir. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
Take out the set red and blue jello and cut into squares with a knife. Combine them into a 13x9 dish and gently mix.
When the unflavoured sweetened condensed milk gelatin is cool, pour over the top of the red and blue squares. Skim or pop any bubbles off the top of the jello. Place in the refrigerator and chill for at least 3 hours or overnight.
After the whole thing is set, use your cookie cutter to get as many stars out of the dish as you can. Use a small spatula to remove the stars and plate - hide the rest of the non-star jello in the refrigerator for later consumption!
